The Present Blessing and Future Hope of Jesus
The religion of Jesus is a present blessing. It benefits men even now. It does them good in this life. It helps and consoles and enlightens in this present and evil world. It gives peace, real soul rest, to the troubled ones. But it takes hold of the future as well as being a blessing in the present. It is a religion of hope as well as of faith. We are saved by hope. We are looking for the “blessed hope” in the fulness of the great fruition. As another says: “Christianity is essentially a life of hope. It is founded on living hope. The eye of faith looks out for the glorious revelation of Jesus Christ from heaven, . . . for the heavenly city of peace, for the precious inheritance, for the new heaven and the new earth.”—Selected.
