A PHYSICIAN points out that a German firm turns out over a ton a day of glucose made from old linen rags, the rags being converted in the process, by the use of sulphuric acid, into dextrin. Glucose is largely used in the manufacture of lager beer, which, according to the above, is liable to contain the results of the conversion of old rags. The truth is that many people do not know half the time what they are drinking. There is a deal of possible harm in many so-called “harmless” drinks.—New York Observer.
