The Unchangeable One.

God is always the same. Men have changed; nations have changed; the earth has changed; mountains have changed. God has not changed. “His righteousness is an everlasting righteousness.” “His mercy endureth forever.” There have been “differences of administration, but the same Lord.” If He ministered summary punishment thru men under the theocracy, as recorded in Exodus 32, He was no less merciful then than now. If He seems to bear longer with men now than He did then, it is not because He is more merciful now than He was then. As truly as the sin of that age was punished, so surely will the sin of this age be. “He that despised Moses’ law died without mercy under [on the word of] two or three witnesses; of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden underfoot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?” We may not see the death of Zimri this side of the crucifixion, but we witness the awful death of Herod. We may not see the burning of Nadab and Abihu, but we witness the awful judgment on Ananias and Sapphira. Sin is death. Righteousness is life. The changeless Creator and Redeemer has always longed to save men to righteousness. And, as ever of old, He is “mighty to save.”
