WASHINGTON A CATHOLIC CENTER.

THE Catholic Telegraph, as quoted by the Catholic Mirror (December 3), says:—
“That the city of Washington is becoming the center of Catholic education in this country there is but little doubt. Since the erection of the first building of the Catholic University ten years ago, various religious orders have built monasteries in the vicinity of the university so that the scholastics of these various houses may have the advantage of pursuing a course at that institution. Much has been said of the university. Little has been given to the public of the orders which are already clustered in its neighborhood or of those other orders that are to come there.”
The Telegraph then goes on to mention the Paulist Fathers, the Marist Fathers (Society of St. Mary), the Franciscan Fathers, the Congregation of the Holy Cross, and the Jesuits.
But what is the object of that church in all this? What but political influence? And truly she is gaining it.
