CATHOLIC CHURCH IN CUBA.

Some papers in America are saying that the government has promised to support the Catholic Church in Cuba till matters can be adjusted, and the people educated to support the clergy. The Catholic Mirror says:—
“Bishop Santander has given us the assurance that the Catholic Church in Cuba can take care of itself until such time as the faithful learn to contribute, as Catholics do here, to the support of religion. And Father McHale, the president of Niagara University, who was lately down in Porto Rico in the interests of his community, the Lazarists, says that the Porto Rican Catholics are already contributing to the support of their priests in much the same way as we do here in the United States.”
What is the truth of the matter?
