God’s Unchanging Character and Law
What kind of a conception of God that must be which puts the Father against the Son, the law of God against the Spirit of God, which tells us that God’s will for His creatures—hence His character—is different now from what it was two thousand years ago; and different then from what it was two thousand years before that! Surely the Lord addresses these words to them, “Thou thoughtest that I was altogether such an one as thyself;” and He declares, “But I will reprove thee, and set them in order before thine eyes.” God is ever the same; so also is His law, His requirements of His children. And always, “this is the love of God that we keep His commandments.” If this is not so, then Christ died in vain and the Spirit is poured out for naught.
