WEST INDIAN STORM AND TIDAL WAVE.

On October 2 the papers were telling us about the great storm and tidal wave that was lashing the Atlantic Coast in the neighborhood of the West Indies. A few days before that the reports told of another most disastrous hurricane that spread desolation among a portion of the West India Islands. And continually we are reading of terrible storms in various parts of the world.
The most superficial observation must convince you that these storms are greatly on the increase. And not only do they increase in their frequency, but also in their disastrous effects. And, further, they are appearing in localities where it was supposed that such storms would never be seen, because the most ancient records showed no traces of storms in those localities.
Some are fondly hoping that this condition of things will change and that the earth will soon assume her accustomed tranquillity and freedom from these dreaded storms. All such should be undeceived. The storms that we are having and have had are as nothing to what is just before us.
The ancient prophet had a view of the desolating scenes of the last days, and following is his graphic language:—
“For My people is foolish, they have not known Me; they are sottish children, and they have none understanding; they are wise to do evil, but to do good they have no knowledge. I beheld the earth, and, lo, it was without form, and void; and the heavens, and they had no light. I beheld the mountains, and, lo, they trembled, and all the hills moved lightly. I beheld, and, lo, there was no man, and all the birds of the heavens were fled. I beheld, and, lo, the fruitful place was a wilderness, and all the cities thereof were broken down at the presence of the Lord, and by His fierce anger. For thus hath the Lord said, The whole land shall be desolate; yet will I not make a full end.” Jer. 4: 22-27.
That which God’s prophet saw in vision, men living in these last days will see in all of its literal reality. And it is the constant and earnest aim of this paper to keep these important facts and their significant meaning continually before the people.
