A LITTLE girl who had two dimes, one for herself and the other for the missionaries, unfortunately lost one. She at once decided that it was the missionaries’ dime that was lost. Some people do their proportionate giving in much the same way. They make sure that they get the nine-tenths, and if the other tenth is not at hand when needed, the Lord’s cause must do without it. This spirit is illustrated in the story of a colored man who was to raise a crop of corn on the shares. The owner of the land was to receive one-third of the grain. The season passed and the corn was gathered, but the owner did not get any. Meeting the old man, he said:— “Why haven’t you lived up to your contract about the corn?” “Deed, master, I have,” was the reply. “I was to get two-thirds an’ you one, and there warn’t but two-thirds of it. I’m mighty sorry. I ’lowed there would be three loads, but there warn’t but two.”—Anon.
