PEACE BY RIGHTEOUSNESS.

By J. E. Rankin

Not peace at any price, Of battles, Lord! Some diplomatic, dark device To end abhorred.

Drive Thou the plowshare home, Our shallow thought confound; Then better yield shall come Out of earth’s broken ground.

Truth’s sword upon Thy thigh, Thy steed snow white, Ride on in majesty, All wrong to right. Heed not our blood and tears, Our outcries of distress. Bring, in these latter years, A peace by righteousness.

Earth’s kingdom Thine, The end, the sum; Tho they in turn decline, Thy kingdom come. Give all earth’s lands new birth; Drive home truth’s share again, Till come new heavens and earth, Amen, O Lord, amen!
