THE OUTLOOK

“I will stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will look forth to see what He will speak with me.”
The New York “Voice” presents as a part of the record of a prominent senator in Congress a list of twelve victims of his fraud, greed, and conscienceless career. Some of these were imprisoned, some forever disgraced who were not incarcerated, and some are in their graves as suicides and drunkards. It might be well to note that this notorious politician was one of the most active in securing Sunday-closing of the Chicago World's Fair, advocating the measure on a religious basis. And so it will be manifest more fully when religion becomes more fully connected with the State and politics. A religious measure, actively and loudly advocated, will do much toward whitewashing an unseemly career.
