Catholicism in Russia.

In speaking on “The Relations of the Roman Church to Russia at Various Periods of Russian History,” the (New York) Russian Orthodox American Messenger of June 13 says of Roman Catholic success:—
“It was only in the South, owing to special local conditions, that they had any measure of success, and even there exclusively among the higher classes. Yet former failures did not discourage either the pope or the Catholics generally from endeavoring to introduce Catholicism or the union into Northern Russia. They are at it yet. Indeed, their hopes of success have become bolder and more arrogant than ever.”
And Roman Catholic success will become more marked in Russia and elsewhere as the years go by. Her success among the higher class is no evidence of the truthfulness of her claim, but it is a mighty help in controlling a nation politically. It is this that the Roman Church is seeking.
