The Song of Moses—Why?

“The Song of Moses.”—Why?—Why is the wonderful song of Exodus 15 called the “Song of Moses”? Why not “the Song of the Israelites”?—Because it was expressive of Moses’ experience, while the great mass of the people were unbelieving. They joined with Moses after the trial was over and the deliverance had come, but the song was not expressive of their experience. It was of the experience of Moses. He believed God before the Red Sea opened. To Him God could intrust the message, “Go forward.” Moses believed God on both sides of the sea. Israel believed God after the trial was over, really a matter of sight, not of faith. It is because this song was the genuine expression of Moses’ faith in God, that Inspiration calls it “The Song of Moses the Servant of God.” Rev. 15:3. It is our privilege to sing the same song, and to make it ours by living faith, but the faith which does this will believe it before the passage of Red Seas, as well as to sing it after the danger is past.
