PATRIOTISM AND RELIGION.

HERE is a characteristic picture of these days of confusion, when so few seem to know how to discriminate between religion and patriotism, because they do not know the religion of Jesus Christ. It is a despatch to the St. Louis Globe Democrat:—
“Chicago, Ill., June 12. During the morning service to-day in Fullerton Avenue Presbyterian Church, the pastor, the Rev. J. A. Redthaler, noticed among his congregation an army officer in full uniform. Postponing his service, he expressed the hope that the soldier would speak, and induced him to ascend the lecturn, where he was introduced as Captain Charles T. Wilt, Jr., Company G, 1st Illinois Volunteers, in Chicago on recruiting duty.
“Captain Wilt talked of the volunteers and of the war. When he spoke of the war and the sacrifices the volunteers were making to free Cuba, the church rang with applause. Of the troops, he said that since the departure of the first there had not been a case requiring discipline in the entire command.
“As he walked down the aisle, an usher followed, waving an American flag over his head, and the congregation cheered, wept, and sang ‘America.’”
