THE AFRICAN DWARFS.

Mr. Hickman, of Benito, Africa, writes to the Church at Home and Abroad of a visit to a settlement of the dwarfs, of whom some reports have been given by travelers. He found a company of about twenty-five who were living in a little clearing of a forest about twenty feet square. The average height of the women was about four feet five inches; one man was measured who was five feet three inches. They catch their game in nets, and seem to have no arms or weapons of any kind. They received the missionaries kindly. A Scotch lady who has been very much interested in these dwarfs has volunteered to pay all the expenses of a mission among them, and the American Presbyterian Board has undertaken to inaugurate a Christian effort in behalf of these degraded people.
