Why “Remarkable”?—

In speaking of six companies of Colorado troops, a semi-religious paper of that State observes, “The scarcity of Christian young men among them is remarkable.” Why “remarkable”? Is it not what should be expected? Christ has called His children to peace, not war. A great general observed, “War is hell.” Christ calls His children to heaven, not hell. Christian young men ought to be in Spain and Cuba teaching the people the way of peace. It might imperil their life more surely than this war, but the cause would be Christian. How can a Christian fight with carnal weapons?
