“WAR BETWEEN TWO CHRISTIAN NATIONS.”

Says Rev. A. K. Glover, rector of the church of the Nativity, Wells, Minn.:—
“The expected has come. War between two Christian nations is a fact. But notwithstanding the horrors of war, it appears that all the greater historic reforms have been realized only through war. There seems to be a holiness to warfare that all its horrors can not obliterate. If the present conflict does not develop into one of far greater proportions we will be thankful. We can not tell just what monarchial Europe may do before we finish the fight. Let us hope and pray that the conflict may be short, decisive and humane.”
If there was a nation on the face of the earth to-day all the inhabitants of which were Christians in fact, and not in name merely, that nation would not be found engaged in carnal warfare. For He whose words will be respected by every man who is a Christian indeed has said, “Put up again thy sword into his place; for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.” Matt. 26:52.
Those few short words contain the explicit law of the Prince of Peace upon the subject of war. They are so plain that they can not be misunderstood or evaded. Christians will heed them. And of course they will see nothing either “humane” or “holy” in the cruel butchering of their fellows. T.
