War Agitation and Drunkenness

A Salvation Army man writes us: “Our papers and our churches that are agitating war and are silent over the half million of murder dens of the United States, are off their base a great deal, and seem to care only for the gain in the sale of papers and the war songs in churches. While they do this the real interest of the nation is not considered.” There were 266 men that went down with the Maine, a sad calamity and wicked deed; but there are a hundred thousand who go down every year to drunkards’ graves.
