Turning the Other Cheek

To the alleged plea of the administration that our government is “waiting for Spain to strike the first blow,” the San Francisco Examiner says: “The first blow was struck in Havana harbor February 15 last. It is not the duty of the nation to turn the other cheek now to the smiter.” But if this is a “Christian nation,” as declared by the U. S. Supreme Court, why should it not “turn the other cheek”? This is the instruction given to Christians by the Lord Himself. See Matt. 5: 38, 39.
