DEPARTURE FOR PITCAIRN.

On the 2d inst. Brother J. R. McCoy sailed from San Francisco for Pitcairn Island on the British ship Orealla, Captain Stewart, bound for Queenstown. Brother McCoy is a native of Pitcairn, was for some time chief magistrate, until he engaged in missionary work with our missionary brigantine Pitcairn. For the past year he has been selling books and doing ship missionary work at San Francisco. Notwithstanding his absence from his island home, he is considered the father of his people, and there seems to be no one there who can fully supply his place. Altho the colony is small, its isolated position throws grave responsibilities upon those who have to lead
the people either in religious or secular matters. While we are sorry to part with Brother McCoy, we are glad for their sakes that he is returning to the island.
