HELPING HAND MISSION.

There have been no large amounts received during the last week, but quite a large number of letters containing contributions ranging from $1.00 to $10 have reached us. These letters, coming as they do from all parts of this country, indicate the widespread interest in the work for the poor which has been undertaken here. We quote from letters received during the last twenty-four hours:—
“I will respond to the call. You will find my mite inclosed for the Helping Hand Mission in the form of a check for $5.00.”
“Please find inclosed $2.00 from myself and husband for the Helping Hand Mission. I wish it were more. We are poor ourselves, but we are in heartiest sympathy with the work, and we can add our daily prayers for God’s blessing on this Christ-like effort for the suffering.”
“Inclosed find $5.00 which I send in answer to the call for help in the SIGNS OF THE TIMES of January 27, for the Helping Hand Mission, trusting that it will be wisely used. We do not begrudge giving where it really helps. But there seems to be a great deal of charity in these days just to be seen of men, and the result is only to make the poor helpless and dependent.”
We can assure this brother that the daily prayer of all connected with the Mission is that God will give wisdom to spend aright all the money so kindly sent. Our only aim is that the work of the Mission may be of practical assistance, such as will enable men to help themselves, and not such as will make them dependents.
Another says: “Find inclosed $10 in post-office money order as a donation to the Mission. We are glad to be able to send a little to help on the good cause, and sincerely wish it was so we could send more. We wish you success in the good work, and hope you will receive donations, food, etc., to carry it on.”
