EXCEEDING GREAT AND PRECIOUS.

THE promises of God are spoken of in His Word as “exceeding great and precious.” And how does the depth of precious meaning in these promises increase as we view the perils of our time! “In the last days, perilous times shall come.” 2 Tim. 3:1. But our Master does not leave us to perish amid these “perils,” or even to be weighed down by fear because of them. He says to us: “Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee. Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.” Ps. 91:5-8.
How full of assurance are these promises! Our Lord lifts us to that plain of confidence that we are not even “afraid,” even tho the “terror by night,” the “arrow” “by day,” and “pestilence” and “destruction” are causing “a thousand to fall at our side, and ten thousand at our right hand.” Such is the wonderful protection that God prepares for all who will allow Him to shield them amid the “perilous times” of these “last days.” Who can reject such loving solicitude and tender consideration?
