“A TRAITOROUS WATCHMAN.”

THREE young men died, one by accident, and the others by disease, within a short time. They regularly attended church, and a Methodist Church. For the preceding six months not a word had been said in the pulpit, in the prayer-meeting, or in the Sunday-school, of the nature of a direct appeal to men to begin a Christian life. There had been sermons about the Bible which had made the congregation laugh, two, at least, partly political sermons, and one on “How to Get Married and Be Happy Afterward.” If it could be proved that these three young men who died without hope in God, will not rise up in judgment against such a man, it would demonstrate the falsity of Christianity; but the Word of God has provided for such a case in the following malediction upon the “watchman” who is recreant to his commission: “When I say unto the wicked, O wicked man, thou shalt surely die; if thou dost not speak to warn the wicked from his way, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand.”—Christian Advocate.
