“BE YE SEPARATE.”

O yes, we must be separate From the great world's ebb and flow; For at the Master's bidding we Must ever come and go!
His a peculiar people are, And tried; for His name's sake; We may not tread the open paths Which others freely take.
And if we will not turn away From self and worldly ties, He breaks the secret cords which bind The tempting springs He dries.
In mercy and in tenderness, Vain hopes He brings to naught, Oft turns our sweet to bitterness: In place of what we sought,
Himself, more fully, He reveals, Surprises more and more; Until, for loss, we count our gain A never-failing store.
