A Precious Assurance

Rom. 8:28 is a most precious assurance to him who has wholly yielded himself and his cause to God: “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” The margin of the Revised Version makes the thought still more precious, for it brings in not simply a fortuitous combination of circumstances, but reveals God’s hand: “And we know that to them that love God, God worketh all things with them for good, even to them that are called according to his purpose.” It is God that controls. He “worketh all things after the counsel of his own will” (Eph. 1:11); “he doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of earth; and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou?” Who would not trust such a God? Who would not yield to his holy purpose?
