Protests Against the King’s Oath

Notice was given by the Irish leader in the House of Commons on March 17 that all attempts to increase the king’s civil list would be opposed until the government promised to alter the king’s anti-Catholic doctrine, known as the “no popery” oath. On Mr. Balfour announcing that it was proposed to appoint a committee to consider the matter, the Irish leader withdrew his opposition for the present. The committee to look into the matter was then appointed. Catholics all over the world have been making strenuous protests against the anti-Catholic oath of the king of England.
