God’s Mercy and the Sinner’s Choice

THERE is no compulsion save that of love on the part of God toward the sinner. “It is because of his mercies that we are not consumed.” His wrath is but our rejection of his mercies; it is God allowing sin which man has chosen to work its own way. Were it not that God in his love restrained the forces of evil, sin would work our destruction much quicker. When he does permit it so to do, it is in mercy, that our sin-blinded eyes may see, and we turn from the transgression to him. But now “the long-suffering of the Lord is salvation.” By and by, when the incorrigibly wicked have forever rejected every offer of mercy, naught will be left them but the sin which they have chosen. Why not choose God now?
