A Better Investment Guide

A LITTLE book comes to us from a great broker’s firm in New York, entitled “Investment Guide,” in which the various leading railways, trusts, and stock companies are set forth. We do not care to invest. We have a better Investment Guide. Here are its directions to every soul, and the dividends and final returns of the investment are absolutely sure if the advice of the Author of the Guide be faithfully followed: “Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal; for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” Matt. 6:19-21. How shall this be done? The Guide answers: “Charge them that are rich [or would be rich] in this world, that they be not high-minded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; that they do good; that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate; laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.” 1 Tim. 6:17-19. What better investment can be asked?
