Loyalty and Treason

TO BE a “traitor,” is after all, simply to be one who “treats” with the enemy for gain. The term has as many hues of meaning as a pigeon’s breast has of color, while truth is colorless, and the instant an act ceases to be obedience it begins to be treason. Loyalty is legality; the two words are one in the original Latin. Christianity is legality, and more—never less. This has been lost sight of mostly. —Woolley.
