GETHSEMANE

O GARDEN sad, yet blessed evermore— Because the Saviour came to thee to pray For strength and courage in his darkest hour— Art thou, Gethsemane!
O hallowed ground whereon the drops of blood From his dear face in agony were poured! O holy spot, whereon in tears he knelt And cried for help to God!
O consecrated shades, where angels came— Unseen to all save God's beloved Son— In answer to his call for aid to say, “Father, thy will be done!”
O garden sad, through thee our feet must go, Sometime, somewhere in life's short, changeful day— O garden sad, yet sweet, since angels' hands Uphold us o'er the way! —Selected.
