Famine and Pestilence

Famine and Pestilence still bear sway in India with increasing tyranny. Fearful as is the bubonic plague, it is said that the famine claims ten victims to one of the plague, while it leaves myriads of others so weakened and emaciated that they fall easy victims to the disease which follows. So it was that cholera followed famine in Russia three years ago. Reports now indicate that the fearful scourge will sweep over India. It is a time for those in plenty to give of their store for the people. May God pity the poor people of India. And yet the disease of sin is worse, more tyrannical, more deadly, than the bubonic plague; for the power of the latter ends with this life; the former if retained ends in eternal death. Christians should do all in their power to save souls from both.
