A COURT OPENED WITH PRAYER.

Quite an innovation occurred at St. Stephens, Ala., recently. When the Circuit Court convened there was a crowded house. Col. S. B. Browne moved that the court be opened each day by prayer and by reading a chapter from the Bible. Judge Anderson granted the motion, stating that he thought it a very appropriate service. Colonel Browne volunteered to read the first chapter, which he did, choosing I Peter 1. After the reading, Solicitor Brooks led in an able petition, imploring divine direction for the court, and that justice might be done, and the county benefited by the session, closing with an earnest appeal for divine blessings upon all present. The assembly room paid respectful attention, the court standing during the prayer.—Pacific Ensign.
