Parkhurstism.

In our neighboring city of the Angels (Los Angeles) Rev. Mr. Wilson has been endeavoring to prove that all are not angels of light, no more than himself. The method he used was the “Parkhurstian plan.” Accompanied by a theological student, he entered a saloon a few minutes before midnight, when the proprietor was closing, and managed by feigning sickness to remain five minutes after the legal time for closing, to drink beer and purchase whisky. They also entered another place, where they bought beer at one dollar a bottle, and induced some of the inmates, for a liberal sum of money, to give shameful exhibitions, which are supposed to be necessary, according to the “Parkhurstian plan,” for suppressing vice, and having for their leaders men calling themselves Christian (!) ministers.
The press of the city has strongly condemned this very questionable method of reform, and the Sunday Times aptly suggests that this class of immoral reformers should call themselves a “Committee on Immoral Practices of the Parkhurst Society.”
