Why Not Preach the Gospel?

—It would be truly refreshing to see some of our great religious contemporaries of the east as much enthused over the Gospel as over politics. Some of them are greatly perturbed over “the silver craze” and “the dishonesty” there is in it, questions concerning which many honest men differ, and which, to some extent, are a matter of theory, to be tested by practice, while the Gospel is given second place, and yet multitudes are dying for need of it. It would be a good thing if these religious, Christian, denominational papers would preach a great deal more Gospel, and a great deal less politics. In fact, we do not believe that it would do any harm if they gave themselves wholly to the Gospel, and left politics where it belongs.
