RESIGNATION

With maimed and empty hands, Lord, here am I, Awaiting thy commands; I only cry: What wilt thou have me do For thee or thine? The lovely things that grew For me and mine, Before my face have died; Naught now remains Of hope or joy or pride, Or sordid stains.
I know some purpose lies Within thy ways, And thou hast heard my cries Through all the days That dark and darker grew; And still I cry: What wilt thou have me do? Lord, here am I.
—Margaret Holmes.
