Reconciled—Who? How?

A correspondent refers to an article in this paper of some time ago in which is an expression to the effect that God was reconciled unto the world by the death of his Son. Our correspondent wonders how such an expression crept into the SIGNS OF THE TIMES. So do we. We know that the expression is wrong, and we do not believe that the writer believed it; it was simply and purely an oversight, to which we need not call attention, only to correct the idea. God does not need to be reconciled. He is all right, always was and always will be right. And he loves the sinner, the one who has rebelled against God’s good and righteous government; and it is the sinner who must be reconciled to God. That the sinner may be reconciled to God Christ died. “God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself.” It is all of God and to the sinner. “God is love;” “the carnal mind is enmity against God.”
