Monterey Celebration for the Sloat Monument

A CELEBRATION is to be held at Monterey July 4-7, for the purpose of commemorating the first raising of the American flag on this coast, by Commodore Sloat, which secured to this country the Pacific Coast states. Each county is invited to contribute a stone for the proposed Sloat monument, the corner-stone of which is to be laid July 5. The celebration will be of interest, and ought to revive in Californians a higher regard for those principles for which the flag stands.
