THE EVENING AND THE MORNING.

BY CLYDE SCOTT CHASE.
O’er this lost, erring world, like a mantle of gloom, And o’er sin-burdened souls in their sorrow and wailing, The curse of Jehovah— The sentence of doom— Long rested, like blight on the frail apple-bloom, And strong hearts of men became fearful and failing.
But, lo! from the east a bright angel ascends, And from him all darkness and doubt flee away. O’er e’en the worst sinners His shining face bends, While God’s own white seal unto them he extends, And their night becomes changed into beautiful day.
