A TOWER IN THE HEART.

BY ELIZA H. MORTON.
I built a tower in my heart With many a precious thought, I polished well with fancy’s touch Each offering that I brought.
I decked the tower with wreaths of flowers; It was to me a shrine. I said, This tower shall always stand, Forever it is mine.
A storm arose, the tower fell; Its beauty all was gone; I gazed upon the wreck with tears, And life seemed left forlorn.
An idol in the heart is like A tower, graceful, fair, But we shall find as years go by It lost in empty air.
’Tis vain to worship things of earth; Our God, a mighty Tower, In him is refuge, peace, and love, And comfort every hour.
North Deering, Maine.
