Greater New York.

If the Greater New York Bill become a law, it will make the metropolis the second largest city in the world, with a strong probability of soon becoming the first. Its area would be 359.75 square miles. The area of London is 688.31 square miles. London's present population is 4,231,431, while the population of the district which Greater New York would cover is 3,195,000, a population more than three-fourths that of London, with an area but little more than one-half. While such an extension of New York would be a matter of local pride, it is nevertheless true, as Mr. Jefferson said, that great cities are “great sores,” and a constant menace and weakness to the body politic.
