It Does Not Need Them.—

“The Volunteers,” as the Ballington-Booth Army is called, has organized its first post on the Pacific Coast at San Jose. It captured at its first meeting one-half of the Salvation Army post, and it is thought that one-half or two-thirds of the remainder will soon become “Volunteers.” One sub-heading given the article in the Prohibitionist, from which we glean the above, is “The Stars and Stripes to Guard the Cross.” The cross does not need them; the cross stands for Christ, by whose all power the kingdoms of earth are upholden. There is altogether too much of putting governments, or patriotism, first and God second.
