TRUE RELIGION.

True religion is a determined purpose to live for God, come what may. It will cling to God in poverty, and say, “If Jesus, who is rich, for my sake became poor, and refused the temptations of the devil, who offered him the kingdoms of the world and the glory of them, if he would fall down and worship him, I can bear poverty for the sake of virtue.” It will cleave to him in bodily pain, and suffering, and mental anguish, saying, “Our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory.” Yea, he will stand alone in the world, stripped of fortune, health, and friends, and say, “Tho He slay me, yet will I trust in Him.” Tho the flames of the burning fiery furnace flash in his face, he will not be terrified into bowing down to worship at the shrine of any idol of this vain world.—J. T. Murray, D.D.
