Civil Government and the Gospel of Jesus Christ

AS ANNOUNCED last week, this issue deals principally with the relations of civil government and the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The efforts now being put forth by the so-called National Reform forces, under various forms, to practically unite the church with the state, render it highly important that the subject be presented before the people in its true light. We trust that the friends of religious liberty will see the importance of giving this number a wide circulation.
In addition to the variety of matter given in this special issue of our paper, and other literature on the same general subject issued by the publishers, we desire to call attention to the American Sentinel, an eight-page weekly journal published at 39 Bond Street, New York City. The Sentinel is devoted exclusively to the work of advocating religious liberty and combating the effort to make this a church and state government. From week to week its columns are laden with live matter pertinent to the issue now so prominently before the public. The subscription price is only $1.00 a year, and the journal is therefore within the reach of all.
