Methods Political.—

A New York religious paper, the Christian Advocate, in speaking of the Sunday-law issue in that state and the attitude assumed by both parties in the beginning of the last political campaign, says of the Republican party:—
“The other party attempted in its convention to dodge the issue, but was stormed and stampeded until it was compelled to pass a resolution which commits it thoroughly.”
And this seems to be the present church method for effecting a reform on the sabbath. They ought not to complain if they are beaten in the political methods which they have adopted, either by secular patriotism, or by Roman Catholicism, or by atheism. “Stormed and stampeded,” however, are not Gospel methods; yet it was done by the religious element for a religious institution.
