Malay-Language Mission Seminary at Depok, Java

The late J. L. Phillips, M.D., writes to the Sunday School Times of a visit to a seminary for the Dutch and German missions of Malaysia, at Depok, south of Batavia, island of Java. Here forty bright young fellows from Borneo, Sumatra, Java, Celebes, and New Guinea are eagerly studying the Scriptures in the Malay language, under the tutorship of a German scholar and his native coadjutors. Looking into the faces of those two men from Dutch New Guinea, of those converted Bataks from Sumatra, how his heart was moved by the thought that the Gospel had brought together here in this Christian seminary the descendants of cannibals, east and west, and of savages of all this Asiatic archipelago! The Bataks on the west coast of Sumatra have furnished 100 missionaries.
