The Difference in Style.— “But if the word is all equally the word of God, what makes the difference in style of composition among the different writers?” is often asked. Well, why should the Spirit of God always use the one style? Many of our best and prolific writers do not at different periods of their life, or in the same periods. We have the grave, the solemn, the pathetic, the argumentative, the lively, the poetic, the prosaic. It is the same mind speaking in each style. Here is the master musician. He plays the violin, the piano, the harp, the guitar, the organ, the cornet, the bagpipe, and the jew’s-harp. We find the evidences of the superior mind in them all. One is loud and harsh, one is soft and sweet, but the touch of the trained hand, the soul of the artist, is revealed in each and all. So God has used, that he might better reach all classes of people, men from all the walks of life. They have submitted oftentimes unconsciously, perhaps, their personality to the Spirit of God, and the Lord has used them to reach other personalities. The melody of heaven is heard in each and all. Praise God for his manifold truth, revealed in his manifold way.
