LITERARY NOTICES.

Second Book in Physiology and Hygiene, by J. H. Kellogg, M.D. American Book Company, New York, Cincinnati, Chicago. 292 pages.
The author's name is a sufficient guarantee that this work is in every respect fully up to the most advanced lines and latest researches on the subject treated. Dr. Kellogg is a practical hygienist on the broad basis of scientific truth, a physician, surgeon, and scientist of varied and extensive knowledge and experience, and these, together with a forcible and lucid style, well fit him for a teacher. The book has also the approval of as high and well-known authority in the medical world as Sir B. W. Richardson, M.D., F.R.S., of London, England. We wish it were in the hands of those to whom it is adapted everywhere. It is a useful book in any home.
Pictured Truth; A Handbook of Blackboard and Object Lessons. By Rev. Robert F. Y. Pierce. Fleming H. Revell Company, Chicago.
This little work of over 200 pages gives a wonderful amount of suggestion in the illustration of Biblical truth so as to make it more memorable and forcible. These suggestions are not by the author alone, but by such veteran workers as Bishop J. H. Vincent, H. Clay Trumbull, D.D., W. F. Crafts, D.D., and others. The book can not but prove a great help to those who wish to use the blackboard, or by illustration to appeal to the eye. It may be obtained of the Pacific Press Publishing Co., Oakland, Cal.
