TAKE IT QUICKLY.

NOTE this down: Acrimony is not essential to fidelity. On the contrary, acrimony needs fidelity in its own case. It needs to be told that a keen, smooth, oiled razor cuts more quickly, deeper, surely, less painfully, and less brutally than a blunt hatchet.
Nevertheless, we should welcome the fidelity—loving or unloving, sweet or acrimonious—which shows us our faults. We should take the unloving as we would a bitter but salutary medicine. If the administrator declines to sugar-coat it, we would act foolishly if, therefore, we should reject it. Even if we must make a wry face over it, better swallow it down—the quicker the better, so as to get as little as possible of the disagreeable taste.
