Our “Christian” Nation.

What a commentary on the “Christian” nation idea is that found in the experience of the Japanese convert, given elsewhere. He says, “The first words that I learned in your Christian country were to swear.” We once met an intelligent German musician, a teacher, whose experience was similar. So much more emphasis, he said, was placed on those profane terms that he learned them before he did any others. When he shortly afterwards met his sister, who had been longer in this country, and told her the words he had learned to speak, she replied, “That is swearing.” How many more heathen would be converted if they were not made to believe that that is Christian which is not!
