A Loving Word

ONLY a loving word! Which cost us nothing to say; And yet in the web of a tangled life It shines like a sunny ray.

Only a loving word! But it made a weak heart strong, And helped a tempted soul to choose The right instead of the wrong.

Only a loving word! But it brightened a gloomy day, Or, spoken to some one weary and sick, It charmed his pain away.

Only a loving word! But it made the angels smile, And what it is worth perhaps we'll know After a little while.
