WEARY OF EARTH.

I am weary of this life of ceaseless toiling, By want and care oppressed; With aching brow, and tired, faltering footsteps I sigh for Heaven’s sweet rest.
I am weary of its scenes of pain and suffering, Diseases dire and dread Torture frail bodies with the keenest anguish, And people earth with dead.
I am weary of its strife and restless turmoil, Its sick’ning doubts and fears; Its hates, its jealousies, and deeds of violence, Drench earth with blood and tears.
I am weary of its vanities and follies; They lure my soul in vain; Its dear-bought pleasures are but empty bubbles, That leave regret and pain.
I’m longing for a home in those bright mansions Where Christ my Saviour’s gone— Where joys are pure, unchanging, and eternal, And sorrow is unknown. R. C. BAKER.
